About the National Scientific Committee

 

ICOMOS India NSCRP is the National Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness that aims at reducing risks to Cultural Heritage from natural and human induced hazards.

 

Vision and Objectives

 

The goals of the ICOMOS India NSC RP, in alignment with the corresponding ICOMOS-ICORP are to enhance the state of preparedness within the heritage institutions and professions in relation to disasters of natural or human origin, and to promote better integration of the protection of heritage structures, sites or areas into national, local as well as international disaster management, including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities. Through the sharing of experience and the development of a professional network, the Committee aims to stimulate and support activities by ICOMOS National and International committees for enhancing disaster risk management of cultural heritage.

NSC RP also hopes to undertake capacity building through training, exchange information and experiences on risk assessment and management of cultural heritage and disseminate the same.

Future / Ongoing Activities

 

Year 2021-22

 

  • Future activities of the NSC plan to align with the Strategic Plan of ICOMOS India and work towards understanding and responding to global risks due to climate change in local contexts. Activity Proposals by NSC RP members include formation of a training program on risk management of urban cultural heritage, undertaking district disaster risk assessments for heritage, creating comprehensive resources for DRR in India and working on research projects in collaboration with other NSCs of ICOMOS India and related organizations.
