Borgeet: The Lyrical Songs of Assam set to Ragas in Vaishnavite Tradition

The ICOMOS India North-East Zone is pleased to invite you all to the International Webinar on 'Borgeet: The Lyrical Songs of Assam set to Ragas in Vaishnavite Tradition' in association with International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICICH) and ICOMOS India National Scientific Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage (NSC ICH).

In a sincere effort to highlight the great tradition of the 15th century devotional music Borgeet created by Srimanta Sankaradeva, an international webinar has been organized on 5 December 2021, by ICOMOS India North-East Zone in association with ICICH and NSC ICH of ICOMOS India. Sangit Satra, Guwahati as well as Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva have collaborated in this initiative.

The three panelists of the webinar are Dr Pabitrapran Goswami, former Principal of Jorhat College, Khana Das, Teacher of Sangit Satra, and Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, Expert Member, ICICH and member ICOMOS India. The webinar will show several performances of Borgeet along with deliberations.  Ms Minakhi Lohkor, a vocal artist from Jorhat, will perform a prayer of Borgeet, marking the commencement of the event. The webinar will be anchored by Ms Kirttika Mohan, ICOMOS India EPWG North-East Zone Representative and moderated by Anju Moni Kalita.
